A good weekend watch : Amitabh Bachchan delivers rocking dialogues and Dhanush gives an outstanding performance!  Dhanush delivers the most outstanding performance in this film whilst Amitabh Bachchan compliments the storyline with gravitas and soul by bringing home the emotions that run wild during times of insecurity.
A delightful pleasure to witness the collaboration of Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan sharing the screen together.

SHAMITABH Is Not A Picture Its A Mixture : Amitabh Bachchan proves why he is a superstar, Dhanush manages to hold his own forte, dialogues lift the film. Direction looses its grip in 2nf half, editing is uneven, too weak 2nd half. Watch it for exemplary performances

Go for it only if you are a hardcore Bachchan fan : SHAMITABH has an out-of-the-box and unusual plot that will appeal only to a niche audience. Go for it only if you are a hardcore Bachchan fan. AMITABH's camaraderie with Dhanush's character in the film is really something that needs to be seen to be believed. Although he has done the drunkard acts in many films before, in SHAMITABH, he plays an old frustrated alcoholic with so much conviction. As far as Dhanush, the 'other' hero of the film, is concerned, he manages to stand his own ground despite the towering presence of Bachchan.

Shamitabh is good film but not a great film : Shamitabh has great starcast who performed brillantly onscreen but bad screenplay and predictive scenes which can be said as the negative for the film. Shamitabh won’t have emotional touch which it has expected at the end. But one should watch film for the great starcast. The film would have better second half which will make huge difference in the talk. on whole, Shamitabh is good film but not a great film.

Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush leave ‘Shamitabh’ half baked: They make a great team, no doubt, but Balki’s plot is unable to take it to greater heights. Once upon a time his obsession for Bollywood’s “biggest superstar” gave us the endearing ‘Cheeni Kum’, and later a hugely manipulative ‘Paa’, but none of his earlier movies quite prepares you for ‘Shamitabh’. A movie that rides purely on director R Balki’s excessive love for Amitabh Bachchan.

While it’s a clever spin on his hero (Amitabh), Balki’s unable to pull it through mostly because he’s so enamoured by the actor, that he believes his voice is enough to captivate and thrill 165 minutes of screen time.

Had Balki invested more on his writing, and ordered Hemanti Sarkar to be ruthless on the editing desk, ‘Shamitabh’ would’ve ended into something quite fun. Instead, it remains an indulgent, glossy fanboy movie, shot exquisitely by P C Sreeram.
