Here's what critics from across the Bollywood town have to say about Harshvardhan Kapoor-starrer Mirzya-
FIRSTPOST
The Critic thought: all is not lost, for in Harshvardhan Kapoor, Saiyami Kher and Anuj Choudhry, Mirzya has presented to us, three newcomers who may give the people of the Village great pleasure in the coming years; and forgiveness ought to be offered generously to the man who made Rang De Basanti.
DNA
Mirzya is random, abstract and niche – not particularly everyone’s cup of tea. Watch it for Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher – the most unassuming debutants of 2016.
HINDUSTAN TIMES
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra creates a surreal world. He experiments with time warp and appears confident about the technique. With Mirzya, Gulzar is back to screenplay writing after 17 years. He chooses to depend on a ‘sutradhar’ (the narrator).
INDIA TODAY
Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher couldn’t have asked for a better debut. But while the Kapoor boy puts in some effort and manages to make an impression, Kher’s acting needs A LOT of working on before she moves to her next film.
THE HINDU
Mirzya — its musical structure — also becomes its undoing. The film plays out like a highly stylised, spectacular Broadway musical, it’s as though you are witnessing larger than life theatre on a 70 mm screen.
Boxoffice India
There are movies that are made for the box office, some conquer some fail. Then there are few movies that are beyond the ticket counter.Mirzya is one of them.
Verdict: Though poetry on celluloid, it will find tough to survive for long at the ticket counter.
